Originally from Oklahoma, Kalen moved to Texas in 2001 to be closer to family and continue her education. Kalen graduated from South Texas College of Law in 2008 and has been practicing primarily family law since that time. After working together with Melissa Smart for over five years, Kalen knew she had found a law partner that shared her vision of unwavering advocacy for clients and strong work ethics.  Melissa and Kalen founded Smart & Malone Family Law Group, PLLC to continue that shared philosophy.

Advocating for those who truly need a voice in the courtroom is something that Kalen feels passionate about. In addition to handling myriad different types of family law cases, Kalen has also worked on CPS cases, advocating the best interests of children and reunification of families. She has experience working as an amicus attorney, having been appointed by different courts to represent children who have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse. 

Kalen has years of extensive experience in divorce, child custody, child support, modifications, property division, name changes, adoptions and grandparents’ rights, among other areas.  Kalen truly cares about families and has compassion for all of her clients, while fiercely representing them.  She has garnered numerous favorable decisions for her clients over the years. Her tenacity mixed with consideration are true assets both inside and outside the courtroom.  Kalen has represented clients in many counties in the State of Texas, including Harris, Fort Bend, Waller, Austin, Brazoria, Montgomery, Galveston, Wharton and Colorado Counties.
